Overview

Patricia Redmond has over four decades of experience representing debtors, U.S. and foreign fiduciaries, secured and unsecured creditors, and official committees and purchasers of troubled companies and their assets in insolvency matters. Her practice focuses on significant Florida Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court restructuring, and bankruptcy litigation and related appeals. She specializes in cases requiring novel and creative solutions and strategies using bankruptcy options to reach beneficial outcomes.

Trish has represented significant players in most of the large restructuring cases in Florida, yet she has also devoted countless hours to providing pro bono legal services to thousands of underprivileged and low-income individuals, children and families. Trish is an adjunct professor of law and a frequent presenter, both locally and nationally, on topics related to bankruptcy law. In recognition of her significant contributions to the community and the legal profession, Trish has received several prestigious accolades, including the ABA Business Law Section’s Jean Allard Glass Cutter Award and The Florida Bar’s Tobias Simon Bro Bono Service Award.

For decades, Trish has held various leadership roles in the insolvency space including President for the American Bankruptcy Institute (“ABI”) and the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida (“BBASDFL”). She also served as Chair of the Business Bankruptcy Committee of the American Bar Association. She is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, where she is the current President, having formerly served as the Chair of the Board of Regents. Trish also founded the Bankruptcy Assistance Clinic at St. Thomas University School of Law and the University of Miami. Trish presently serves on the Uniform Law Commission’s Drafting Committee on Assignment for Benefit of Creditors and frequently presents on this topic.

Trish is the author of various articles on ethics, individual Chapter 11 and equitable subordination. She has also recently written on the treatment of non-voting classes in Chapter 11 cases, the modernization of local rules requiring “wet ink” signatures and the impact of COVID-related decisions on the Chevron deference.
