Jay Shapiro Honored with Voices for Children Foundation Legacy Award
MIAMI, FL – Stearns Weaver Miller announced that Shareholder Jay B. Shapiro was honored with the Voices for Children Foundation Legacy Award. The award celebrates his over two decades of dedication, generosity, and belief in the Voices for Children mission. Jay has been on the Board of Directors for the organization since 2006, including as Chairman from 2016-2019.
Voices for Children is a nonprofit that provides critical funding and direct support for advocacy, basic needs, and experiences for abused, abandoned, and neglected children and youth in the Miami-Dade County foster care system.
“Voices for Children does incredible work and changes lives every single day,” said Shapiro. “Over the past 20 years, I have seen first-hand how vital their impact is for children that need strong, consistent support. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with an organization that provides the resources and sense of normalcy that these deserving kids need to thrive.”
Jay has a national litigation practice. With over 35 years of courtroom experience, he regularly argues cases before trial and appellate courts across the country. Jay represents public and private companies in a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including antitrust litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property litigation, pharmaceutical litigation, defamation and libel law, deceptive and unfair trade practices, directors’ and officers’ liability, insurance coverage litigation, civil theft, and federal and state civil RICO actions. He also has extensive experience defending and prosecuting class actions. Jay is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee. From 1998 to 2004, he served as the firm’s Managing Director.
